about

“Oceans,” the debut release of Colorado Straightedge, disguises the pain of heartbreak through an upbeat tempo and catchy lyrics. I wrote the song after moving to college forced a reluctant breakup with my high school girlfriend. I internally grapple with the value of love given the eventual sorrow that follows. More than anything, I long to return to the times that once were - the days we spent together by the oceans.

Colorado Straightedge is a band hailing from the far corners of America. Made up of four musicians living in the same dorm at Vanderbilt University, each member brings his own musical background to a project that blends the genres of indie, pop, rock, emo, and singer-songwriter to create a novel blend of sound that expresses their musical passions.

Lineup:
John Abbott (KY) - Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
Matthew Geleta (NJ) - Bass Guitar, Synthesizer
Pierce Bivens (HI) - Lead Guitar
Nick Sutton (IL) - Drums

lyrics

We hung our feet out
Out in the water
I had the feeling
Wish I were higher

Roll the tide to ride the wave
Ride it back to Monterey
Leave all of our memories
And float away into the sea

You wanna make more time but you won't let go
Because if you break down, you might lose it all
So if you leave one day ‘cause you can't find peace
Then you could sail away and get lost with me

I'm sorry how it happened
I'm sorry that I loved you
I'm so sorry how it happened
I'm sorry how I loved you

We held our hands out
Over a fire
To fold a paper
Into a lighter

Roll the tide to ride the wave
Ride it back to Monterey
Leave all of our memories
And float away into the sea
You wanna make more time but you won't let go
Because if you break down, you might lose it all
So if you leave one day ‘cause you can't find peace
Then you could sail away and get lost with me

I'm sorry how it happened
I'm sorry that I loved you
I'm so sorry how it happened
I'm sorry how I loved you
You
You
You
You

You needed someone to love
I needed someone to love
You want somebody to love
I'll be somebody to love

You weren't happy at all
You didn't want me at all
No I'm not happy at all
Nobody's happy at all

I'll do it over again
I'll do it over again
You said you needed a friend
So I'll do it over again
